Product Discription

Red tide causative species Detection Kit 1 –Karenia mikimotoi– is designed to detect Red tide causative plankton “Karenia mikimotoi” using the Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) method. Karenia mikimotoi is identified by amplification of a part of its genomic DNA.
LAMP is fast and easy DNA amplification method which is also used for the diagnosis of influenza virus and detection of other infectious pathogens, exhibiting excellent specificity and sensitivity.
These kits enable all reaction processes to progress at a constant temperature with a simple container such as a Thermos pot.

Karenia mikimotoi

Karenia mikimotoi is a species of phytoplankton—specifically a dinoflagellate—that can undergo massive blooms, resulting in red tides. While hundreds of phytoplankton species inhabit Japanese waters, approximately  twenty kinds bring serious damage to the fisheries industry. Karenia mikimotoi is one of these harmful species; its proliferation poses a risk of mass mortality among fish and shellfish.
To prevent significant damage to the fisheries industry, it is crucial to monitor for red tide outbreaks at an early stage and implement countermeasures such as relocating fish pens or suspending feeding.
Traditionally, the identification and density measurement of harmful species have relied primarily on microscopic observation—methods that require specialized knowledge and, in some cases, time-consuming labor. This kit enables the simple, highly sensitive, and rapid detection of the harmful species Karenia mikimotoi.
